The word “Chary” in Russian means “magic” or “charms.” Similar in color to Sugilite, Charoite is less transparent, or translucent, but exhibits varying degrees of chatoyancy. Not unlike silky, fibrous malachite! Initial discoveries did not appreciate Charoite, but once it was polished a newfound appreciation for it was discovered. There are often solid black inclusions, which are Aegirine! Charoite comes from a single locality in the world and as such is extremely rare. The likelihood of more arriving makes this doubly exquisite.
